Architect Alvar Aalto designed the Aalto collection in 1936. It won gold at the Karhula Iittala glass competition, making them the entry work to the Paris World Fair in 1937. Its organic shapes flow freely, as water would flow in a lake. The collection has become a globally recognised symbol of modern Scandinavian design.
